Celebrating Professor Akinlawon Mabogunje @ 80 and Presentation of His Autobiography. PDF Print E-mail
Professor Akin L. Mabogunje turned 80 on October 18th, 2011. The Foundation for Development and Environmental Initiatives (FDI), an NGO founded in his honour at his 75th birthday deemed it fit to honour this great son of Africa, the doyen of urban studies and planning in the continent, through a celebration of his life and times. The occasion was also used to present his autobiography A Measure of Grace written by him.

50 Years of Urbanization in Nigeria PDF Print E-mail
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON 50 YEARS OF URBANIZATION IN NIGERIA IN HONOUR OF PROFESSOR AKINLAWON LADIPO MABOGUNJE AT 80.

The challenges posed by rapid urbanization in Nigeria began to be evident towards the end of 1950s and culminated in the pioneer doctoral research on the topic by Prof Akin Mabogunje in his study of Lagos in 1961. The findings of this study and follow- up works on other Nigerian cities also led to the publication of his first book -- titled Urbanization in Nigeria in 1968 published by the Oxford University Press.

This book raised a number of fundamental issues on the process of urban development in Nigeria, which, though not really appreciated and understood at that time, have now escalated to an unimaginable magnitude in the country’s landscape.
